Abbie from the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle is crowned NICU Superhero!

Nicola got in touch with us because she wanted to nominate the wonderful Abbie from the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle for our NICU Superhero Award.

Nicola's son, Theo, spent time in the neonatal unit after being born at 22 weeks and 5 days gestation. Nicola was blown away by Abbie's care so wanted to say a special thank you!

"Abbie was Theo's nurse from the day he was born. She was constantly updating us via vCreate and going out of her way to get pictures of Theo during the night and on special occasions. She would always come up with the best captions for the vCreate photos to keep us entertained throughout the evenings.

Abbie is a truly amazing nurse and instantly took amazing care of Theo. Her care for all the babies is fantastic and she always knows exactly what is best for them. She would help Shaun (Dad) do a lot of things he was a little unsure of doing, such as, changing his nappy, having cuddles, and even having his first bath.

She knew Shaun was mad on Newcastle United, so she made Theo a card Newcastle football strip to wear one evening as a surprise for him!

Abbie went out of her way to put a smile on our faces when we were feeling a little low. She's just really easy to talk to.

Theo is doing fabulously, finding his own personality and making everyone who meets him aware of it. He melted the hearts of all the nurses who looked after him!

We will be forever grateful for you, Abbie!"

What a remarkable nurse you are, Abbie! Going out of your way to make parents smile. Congratulations to you.
