Abigail's son, Emmanuel, is a really brave big brother!

When Emmanuel's brother was born 10 weeks early, he proved to be an absolute superstar.

"Emmanuel was an amazing big brother when his baby brother was born too soon.

It was all so unexpected and it meant spending time away from me for the first time since losing his Daddy to cancer.

He caught COVID whilst I was in the hospital with his baby brother so that made things even more complicated.

Through the 6 weeks his baby brother spent at Lister Hospital neonatal care, Emmanuel showed a level of maturity I could not have imagined in a child of 4 years old.

He would ask every night about his baby brother, draw pictures for me to take to the hospital, asked to video call him when I was with the baby, do his chores at home without being asked and when his baby brother finally came home, he welcomed him with the biggest smile and has cared for him ever since.

Emmanuel is the “oldest” man in our household and he takes his role very seriously when it comes to his baby brother. He talks about his late Daddy and tells stories to his baby brother about him and how much he loves them both.

Writing this makes me cry a little as I realise it is a massive emotional burden on him, and I see what an amazing and resilient little boy he is.

For this and many more things he does on a daily basis, I feel he deserves to be recognised as a Best Buddy Sibling!”
