Emma and Neil from RHC NNU Receive NICU Superhero Award

Here at vCreate we continue to celebrate the incredible work of NHS neonatal staff with our NICU Superheroes Award. It is wonderful to hear from families who have received outstanding care from neonatal unit staff and who want to give them special recognition for their hard work.

This week, Ruth Docherty and her family have been in touch and nominated Staff Nurse, Emma Gallacher and Consultant Neonatologist, Dr Neil Patel, both from the neonatal unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow.

Ruth told us why the Docherty family chose Emma and Neil...

Emma Gallacher
“Emma well, where do we start? A girl with an absolute heart of gold. When we left our wee Daniel and Emma was looking after him, we felt at ease. She became like family to us. It’s not just a job to her. She loves what she does and that pours out of her. Such an enthusiastic, loving, amazing person.”

Neil Patel
“We’d like to nominate Neil because he looked after our baby when he was in the NICU, but he also looked after us. He would always ask how we were doing. He goes above and beyond the call of duty. One of our highlights was when my husband, Gary, taught Neil to knit when we were knitting for the memory blanket in the HUGG, the Helping Us Grow Group.”

Ruth continued,

“We will be forever grateful to Neil, Emma and all the staff at NICU. There are no words for how amazing they all are xx.”

All neonatal staff are incredible and we want to encourage families to share just what makes them so fantastic! Please do get in touch to nominate your NICU superhero or superheroes. Drop us a brief note with the name of the NHS staff member you’re nominating, and which hospital they work in, to parents@vcreate.tv, or send us a direct message via @vCreateNeonatal on Facebook.
