Kay from the QEUH in Glasgow is Lauren’s NICU Superhero

When Hunter was born prematurely at 26 weeks gestation, he was cared for by the neonatal team at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. He is now home and doing well, and described by his mum Lauren McMillan, as, "a wee monkey!" Well that wee monkey just celebrated his first Christmas at home, what a special time for the family.

Lauren got in touch with us as she wanted to nominate a member of the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) team at the Queen Elizabeth for being so super during the family's time there, and to say an extra special thank you. She told us:

"Our superhero nomination is for Kay Doherty from the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. Kay was there when our little Hunter was born at 26 weeks old, she was on shift the following day and her support and care for all of us was exceptional.

We were in the NICU and SCBU (Special Care Baby Unit) for 13 weeks and whenever we saw her around she would always ask how he was and how we were. A genuinely lovely, lovely person. She is a true hero!"

Congratulations to Kay! Lauren submitted her nomination on behalf of herself, her partner Scott and Hunter, thank you all for sharing. You can view Lauren's photos of Hunter's neonatal journey over on our Facebook and Instagram pages. To nominate your NICU Superhero, just send us a private message via our Facebook page or email the team.
