Nikki's NICU Superhero is Karen from Princess Royal Maternity Hospital in Glasgow!

     

Nikki has nominated Karen from Princess Royal Maternity Hospital in Glasgow to be crowned NICU Superhero!

When Nikki's son, Alife, was born at 24 weeks and 5 days gestation, Nikki was so glad that Karen was around to help her feel at ease.

"As an anxious Mum, Karen made me feel so calm and relaxed.

She was one of the first nurses I met and she was so kind, sweet, and caring.

I couldn't get my head around the alarms on the machines as they would beep constantly. However, Karen would calm me by explaining what they were and why they were going off.

Karen was very gentle in the way she handled Alfie.

Alfie didn't leave the NICU unscathed. He developed meningitis and also needed a heart operation when his PDA didn't close.

It felt like Karen was by my side through it all!
