Today's NICU Superhero is Assistant Psychologist, Charlotte!

     

Today's NICU Superhero nomination is a little different, Charlotte has been nominated by her colleagues.

Charlotte Peters is an Assistant Psychologist at the Newborn Care Unit at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. Today is her final day on the unit before she sails off into the sunset to continue her studies in Psychology, but before she leaves, her colleagues wanted to let her know that she will be missed and got in touch to nominate her as their NICU Superhero!

As an Assistant Psychologist, Charlotte's role involves supporting parents with a premature or poorly baby in the neonatal intensive care unit. As this can be a deeply traumatic experience for the whole family, the work of psychologists is vital in helping to support the mental health and wellbeing of mothers, fathers and siblings.

In her role, Charlotte also lead the implementation of vCreate in Oxford, so that families could receive video and photo updates of their baby when they were apart. Nicola Young, Deputy Sister and Clinical Educator in the Newborn Care Unit, wanted to congratulate Charlotte as she has been a valued member of the team. She got in touch to see if we could help celebrate this special lady on her final day, telling us:

"Charlotte Peters has run with vCreate in Oxford NNU and all of the staff and families love it. She has been so passionate about "her baby" and it would be lovely to honour her in some way before she leaves us."

We couldn't agree more and Charlotte's Psychology colleagues, Dr Jacinta Cordwell and Dr Joanna Mann, also had some lovely words to share:

"Charlotte has been integral to supporting the development and use of vCreate on the Oxford neonatal unit. It has made a huge difference to the families we care for. We are so thankful for all her efforts. She truly is a vCreate Superhero."

And finally, Ben (here at vCreate Towers) had some words that he wanted us to share:

"Charlotte has been a joy to work with and her feedback and suggestions have helped us to develop the system and improve the service for families. The whole team wish her well and hope our paths will cross again in the future."
