Congratulations to Katie from James Cook University Hospital!

     

As next Tuesday 28th April is National Superhero Day, we will be taking the opportunity to thank all those NICU Superheroes who have been nominated over this last year. We will be holding a live draw over on our Facebook page at 1pm, where we will put all the names of those 48 wonderful people together and select one name at random, they will be crowned your NICU Superhero of the Year! Katie Kelly from James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough has been nominated by Sophie and her fiancé Adam. Their little boys, Thomas and Oliver, were born prematurely at 23 weeks and 3 days gestation and were cared for in two hospitals, James Cook and also the University Hospital of North Tees, Stockton-on-Tees. Sophie told us about the wonderful care the family received:

"I would like to nominate Katie from the NICU at James Cook University Hospital. All of the nurses on the unit are incredible, but Katie goes above and beyond for us.

We have had a traumatic time as of late, we lost one of our beautiful twin boys Thomas, age 19 days old. Katie has been so supportive to myself and my fiancé Adam. I can never repay her for what she has done, but hopefully this will show her and remind her how amazing she is."

Since Sophie shared her nomination, Oliver has made it home after 111 days in the neonatal unit. We're wishing you all the very best in your new life beyond the NICU Oliver. Sophie has shared some really special photos with us which you can view on Instagram and Adam allowed us to share a precious video he made of Oliver's journey, which you can view on our Facebook page. Thank you both for sharing your story, it's wonderful to know that you have had this support.
